Video Versions

Thanks Kate for inspiring me to use the flip camera in the classroom! I plan to use it in a couple of different ways. First idea (which I thought of last year, but never implemented) is to tape the students during their Reader's Theater. I plan to tape them daily hoping to inspire them to practice more and speak more clearly.

Another idea which would require some editing (here's my video editing lesson plan idea). I plan to video tape the students planting their bean seeds during our upcoming plant unit. Once the seeds start to grow, the growth progress will be recorded. After enough footage, I will edit the recordings and speed it up to show seed to plant in continual growth! Could be very cool!

  1. Wow! I really like both of your ideas! I may just have to steal them both. I am going to use Flip Video and Pixie to have my students make videos on great Americans for my next unit.

  2. Beth I love that idea of videoing a Reader's Theatre. The kids love watching themselves!

  3. Way cool with the seeds. You have to let us know how that all works out. It could be a blast for the kids to watch when your done.

  4. I think these are both very doable for kindergarten and both would provide great feedback for the students. I'll keep you posted or let me know how it turns out for you...

  5. I love the idea of recording the seed growth. I only wish I had read your idea before some students started their science projects in school..that would have made a great addition to their Science Fair display.

  6. I LOVE LOVE the plant idea and will be borrowing this one from you!!! It'll be so cool for the kids to actually watch the progress at the end. They will be able to see that even though you can't watch the plant change, it still does. Great idea!!

  7. What a great idea for the plant unit! It allows the children to see the growth quickly after waiting so long for it. You could also add in text of how many days it had been growing by the picture- like Day 3 or Day 5, etc.
