After reading a few posts on podcasts I do think it could work for the primary grades. Kate suggests using a "Reader's Theater". I think it would be fun to have the students read longer stories but post podcast "segments" (similar to a chapter) daily. The audience would "stayed tuned" daily to see what happens. It also presents itself to making story predictions.
Another approach could be taking the student's writing (or a class story) and present that in the same way (read short segments daily). The students would find this to be very motivating-inspiring quality writing...do I sense an authentic problem brewing??????

AHHH..the old Authentic problem. I think every time I give my class the chance to record something they are doing the step up their game. They love to hear their voices. I also like the readers theater scripts. That would work well with this format.
ReplyDeleteGenius Beth. I love that idea. I think there is a lot we could do with our kinders and having them use podcasts. Another fabulous idea you have.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree!! I really think that students of any age would produce better quality work if it were showcased through a podcast:)
ReplyDeleteAs always, I plan on stealing your idea neighbor! I think having the kiddos leave the listener hanging will be a great way to encourage parents to keep up with our websites. You rock!
ReplyDeleteGood ideas, Beth. I like the reader's theater in chapters and I think it would be a great idea to use the children's writing to read or even act out. Their writing could be like the book and the podcast like the movie version. I think they would enjoy seeing their writing "come to life".
