"Worth It" Factor

It's been fun viewing the other blogs in our cohort. I am amazed how time goes by so quickly when you are reading and posting blogs.

However, as a kindergarten teacher I wonder if this activity would meet the "worth it" factor Judi Harris spoke of? I often ask myself this question when integrating new ideas into the classroom. The ideas can be wonderful, but if they take too much time away from an already busy schedule is it truly worth doing the activity?

Kindergarten could certainly do a group blog, but it may require more work/time than I have to give. Perhaps blogging later in the school year would be more effective. Any thoughts?

  1. Wow,blogging in kindergarten. I'm wondering how that would work in first grade. I agree you really have to weigh the "worth it" factor befor jumping in.

  2. I also agree with the "worth it" factor being a concern for me. In my art class I only see students once a week for 50 minutes with limited access to computers. I would need to really think it through.

  3. I was wondering the same thing Beth. How could I use this with kids who can barely read or write.....I thought maybe with the kids who are reading and need some enrichment or with parents.... But then I wasn't exactly sure what I would write for parents....

  4. Blogging in kindergarten would be an amazing sight to see that's for sure! I wonder if there are kindergarten, even first grade classes, that have had successful blogging practice in their classrooms.

  5. The "worth it" factor is one of the biggest questions I have right now. The TIME commitment is tremendous. I seem to be getting lost in blogs like I have gotten lost on the Internet searching for instructional ideas prompted by this cohort. Another thought is, the "worth it" factor will be different for everyone. A big piece to knowing/finding the answer to this question is our own personal abilities/knowledge base with various tools. I'm sure our initial thoughts and ideas will change over the next 14 weeks!
